DCR Tree Steward Training—Registration Now Open

Training Available: Wednesday October 1st, 2025 - Worcester 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. OR Training Available: Thursday October 2nd, 2025 - Worcester 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

This popular training program is back for 2025. Now with two different dates available for this one-day workshop. Designed for community tree board members, tree wardens, municipal staff, tree activists, planners, and green professionals, this program is centered around the topics and issues of urban and community trees and forests.

State and local experts will provide foundation training, with the aim of developing better tree stewardship in communities of all sizes in Massachusetts.

This year’s topics: iTree, Community Tree Boards and Ordinances, Tree Maintenance, Pruning Trees, Proper Tree Planting Techniques, Funding Urban and Community Forestry, and more. ISA credits will be available.

Lunch will be on your own.

Cost to register is $20 (Payment can be cash or check made out to MassReleaf Trust Fund) The event will be held indoors and outdoors, rain or shine, please come prepared for the weather. Each session is limited to 20 participants.

The Canopy Crew

Councilor Anna Callahan is leading a group of residents she calls the Canopy Crew that will plant bare root trees, paid for by the city, on city property. The group will hold inaugural planting events this November and is looking for volunteers.

TreesMedford originated the idea of a COVID Memorial Grove. We are very excited to see it progressing and encourage turnout for the public feedback session. The memorial will increase canopy, provide a meditative retreat and will be a memorial to those we lost to COVID.

Distribute Bare Root Trees!

Come help distribute trees in late October, likely a Monday afternoon. We won't have the date for a few weeks but we could use your help unloading, sorting tagging and delivering some of the trees. Click here if you'd like to help!

Significant tree program

TreesMedford would like to identify the largest and most significant trees within city limits in order to celebrate them and track their health and progress over time.

We invite Medford residents to identify and publicize distinctive trees in their neighborhoods and parks. Trees can be distinctive because of their size, age, documented history or unusual species. Trees can be on public streets, parks and the grounds of public buildings. If the tree grows on private property the owner will have to give permission before we can publicize it. Please send us a photo if you can!

TreesMedford would again like to raise funds to give away trees to cool off Medford neighborhoods. Our fellow Medford resident Tom Lincoln has offered a challenge grant this summer that will match donations one for one up to $6,000 and 2 for 1 from $6,000-$7,000. Please consider making a donation below. If you wish to use a donor advised fund please use the address information following. You may send us a check at 54 Canal St., Medford, MA 02155. The deadline for funds to be matched is September 30. Please be generous.
